Candle Care

So your wanting to know more about your candle and how best to take care of it? You've come to the right place. We want to ensure that you experience the full burning and scent potential of your candle.  We have put together candle care tips and guidelines to properly care for your candle while maintaining safety within your home.

1. First Burn

On the first burn of your candle, please ensure you allow enough time to burn your candle for at least 4 hours, or until your candle has melted the top layer of wax to cover the entire surface, this is called a 'full melt pool'.  This prevents tunneling and your candle will last longer.

2. Trim Wick

Please ensure you trim the wick before every burn. Wooden wicks trim to 1.5mm and cotton wicks to 5mm. Untrimmed wicks will emit carbon, black soot smoke and can cause a large flame, over burning and discoloration. You can use wick trimmers, nail clippers or even break off the burnt ends with your fingers.

3. Safety Tips

Do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time and stop burning when 1/2 inch of wax remains in the candle jar. This prevents the jar from overheating!

4. After Care - Glass Jars

Lovely, so you've finished burning your candle? There are many ways to clean and remove the leftover wax from your jar.

  • Fill a deep bowl or pot with boiling water, pop in your candle jar, wait a few minutes until the wax has softened.
  • Once the wax has melted carefully remove the jar from the water and pour out the remaining wax (avoid the drain). Thoroughly wash your candle jar with warm soapy water.
  • You can remove the wick and wick holder by slipping a pen underneath and popping it up.  The boiling water would have softened the wick tabs adhesive.
  • PLEASE DO NOT microwave to melt leftover wax as the wick holder is made of metal.

After Care - Concrete Jars

  • Place your used concrete jar in the freezer for approximately 1 hr, until the wax had hardened completely.
  • Remove the jar from the freezer and take sharp object, I prefer a pointed knife (please be careful), gently tap the end of the knife to break up the wax.
  • Tip any loose wax in the bin, your wicks should remove with the wax as I know longer use wick stickers for my concrete jars, for this purpose.
  • Wipe out the inside of the jar with paper towel.
  • Once the jar is clean, please leave it to thaw to room temperature and wipe away any condensation on the outside.
  • Your concrete jar is now ready to use again, you can purchase our refills here or you can use your empty jar as a pen holder, for cotton wool, or a vase!
